Nicolaos Sotirakos

It is with heavy hearts that we announce, Nikolaos Sotirakos aka Niko/Vlahos passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Sunday October 8th, 2023.
He leaves behind his adoring wife Helen, sons’ Christos (Mara) and Tony (Karin), daughter Popy (Loui), grandchildren Athena, Zoe, Angelia, Alissa (Alexander) and Thomas. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather with a heart so big and bright. His love for his family will always shine bright with everyone to see and feel.
Niko was born in Mystras, Sparti, Lakonia, Greece on November 4th, 1939. He was the third of five children. His father Christos and mother Eleni raised him and his sibling’s Ioanna, Panayoti, Tasia and Kostaki through difficult time’s during World War II. Their family home held strong, always full of love, support and welcoming everyone with open arms.
Niko left the village at the age of 17 in 1956, for Montreal, Quebec where he met his beautiful bride to be Helen Vasilakos. They eloped to Toronto in 1962 and were married for 61 fulfilled years. He treated her like his Queen, “Best years of my life” - Helen. The love the two showed was admirable and felt by everyone. They worked hard and lived life to the fullest with their family and friends. They created a strong foundation for their lives and the lives of many close to them. Returning yearly to their roots in Greece, and enjoying the warm ocean waters, and the beautiful churches and monasteries with their family and friends.
Vlahos had a beaming smile and open heart. He was always positive, upbeat, and supportive. He loved to plant, nourish and garden. He planted pits and seeds from food he ate, which grew into fruitful bushes, trees, and gardens. He always shared his fruits and vegetables grown from his gardens with family, friends and neighbors. He was very giving with an open heart and big smile. Vlahos loved being outdoors; hunting and fishing were his two big passions. He was a proud Spartan, he helped many people with all his heart and he lived, laughed, and loved.
