In lieu of flowers

Please consider a contribution to Memorial for Nickolas on Cayuga Waterfront Trail.

Background

Nickolas was an avid runner and carried inside him a childlike wonder.

In lieu of flowers, the family will be raising funds to donate to a feature at the Cayuga Waterfront Trail (managed by the Friends of Stewart Park, www.friendsofstewartpark.org/) When we think of Nickolas and who he was, we feel it's fitting to donate to this organization's mission of promoting fitness and wellness, families and play, accessibility and inclusivity, and relaxation and mental health.

There will be no burial, so we'd like to have a meaningful place to visit him. Depending on how much we raise, we'd like to sponsor a plaque, chair, or bench.

Updates

Update from Oct. 3, 2023

**** An update from Nickolas' family - the bench has been installed and we will be meeting there on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 10am. - Yvette Burggren on behalf of Karen, Jon, Fabian, and Alicia ****

We want to thank you immensely for your generosity, as it has made it possible for us to have an allocated space for remembrance. A local spot, where one can visit in Nickolas’ memory, enjoy the surroundings, and the people strolling by.

Nick’s bench and plaque are located near the Ithaca Children’s Garden, by the entry for the Black Diamond Trail. This particular location is representative of the love Nick had for the outdoors, for people, and life. While a decent run through the trails seemed to give Nickolas wings, he actually became more grounded, clear minded, and connected.

Sunday October 8th is Nick’s birthday, and nearly 1 year since he departed into spirit.
We will be taking a brief moment to come together and share some love for each other through Nick, at 10 am on Sunday. Feel free to do the same, or visit the bench another time, perhaps take a selfie (or a “selfish” as Nick used say).
Thank you all for this gift.

- Karen, Jon, Fabian, and Alicia

Update from June 6, 2023

Last October, we were so incredibly humbled by your generosity, kindness and support in memory of our Nickolas.

We want to share that we've secured the spot for Nickolas' bench, located at the entrance of the Black Diamond Trail, near the Ithaca Children's Garden. When the bench is installed in the next couple months, we'll share another update.

We're looking forward to having a place to meet and reflect on our memories of Nickolas. This wouldn't have been possible without you all.

Sending our deepest gratitude,
Karen, Jon, Fabian, Alicia and Yvette
