Nicholas's obituary

Nick DuBravac passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 6, 2024. He is survived by his wife Debbie, his brother Tom, his children Steve, Sydney, Nicole and Tom, his grandchildren Georgia and Andrew, his nieces Therese and Renee and his daughter in law Melanie  and son in law Patrick. Nick was born in Ely, Nevada on July 11, 1942 and grew up in Portland, Oregon. He attended St Charles and St. Rose Elementary schools and Central Catholic High School.

Nick was an active sportsman and athlete throughout his life. He participated in weight lifting and arm wrestling competitions and completed three marathons. Nick coached all four of his children in little league baseball and softball and was a big fan of the San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Indians. His love for fishing took him to British Columbia, Alaska, as well as his favorites, Paulina Lake in eastern Oregon and Pyramid Lake in western Nevada. Nick was a passionate bowler throughout his life and once achieved at least one 300 game.

Nick retired from the Northwest Natural Gas Company after 35 years of service, moving up the ranks from meter reader to dispatcher and finally purchasing agent. It was at the Gas Company where he met Deb. Prior to working at the Gas Company Nick worked briefly as a mail carrier and served in the US Army reserves.

Nick and Judi Potter married not long after graduating high school and had four children. Nick and his second wife, Deb Thorn, recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. Family was essential to Nick, who returned to his spiritual home, McGill, Nevada, throughout his life. McGill was the birthplace of his parents Nick and Rose.  He was proud of his Croatian heritage and grew up with traditional home cooked Croatian meals for the holidays. He was also passionate about his dogs. He enjoyed taking Foster, Lucy & Max to the park for a run as well as baby-sitting his grand-pup, Lula.
