Nick's obituary

Nicholas G. Koopman, Jr., went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2023, while surrounded by his family. He was born September 2, 1965, in Somerville, MA, to Janice and Nicholas Koopman, Sr., and raised in Hopewell Junction, NY. He graduated from Arlington High School, Dutchess Community College and SUNY Brockport.

As a child, Nick was known as a daredevil who consistently found himself in many precarious situations. One such example was jumping from his roof into a 4ft pool, taking care to be sure the angle was just right so as not to overshoot the side!

He met the love of his life while in high school and reconnected in community college. Nick and Nancy were married October 14, 1989, at First Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Valley, NY, and moved to Kingston, NY, where Nick worked for IBM as a software developer. He worked for a few different computer companies before starting his own LLC CloudVoltz. He traveled a lot in his early career and his wife and two children would meet him often in various locations. He worked in places such as Rio and Malaysia coming home with many interesting stories as well as interesting foods.

While attending a bible study through Grace Community Church in Lake Katrine, NY, Nick gave his life to the Lord. He continued to be active as a Deacon, in the choir and leading Bible studies. He continued his journey at Cross Point Fellowship in Hurley where he was active as part of the worship team, as well as helped with the computer networks and in the office.

Even through his long battle with cancer he showed strength at every challenge with a smile on his face. Despite his serious diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer he was given in Dec. of 2020, he fought and gave his loved ones 2.5 more years, before being overcome with an aggressive meningeal cancer. In honor of his love for science, Nick's remains were donated to MedCure.org where he will help with advancements in medical research, development, and education.

Nick will long be remembered for his goofiness, quick smile, sound effects, constant whistling, kind heartedness, love of animals, and always making sure those around him were comfortable with a smile on their face. He loved traveling, getting to the top of mountains, being "meadowed", beating everyone around him in board games no matter which one and always the first time he played, enjoying craft beers and delicious food. He kept an impeccable yard, glistening pool, and was constantly doing updates to the family home in Cottekill. He also loved volunteering his time to his church, and was quick to help out anywhere and whenever there was a need.

Nick is survived by his wife Nancy Koopman, his children Daniel Koopman (Paige Gentry) and Kailey Koopman (fiancée Dylan Dubord), his father Nicholas Koopman, Sr, and his sister Penny Koopman. He was predeceased by his mother, Janice Koopman, and his daughter, Patricia.

Nick will be honored in a Celebration of Life ceremony on October 7, 2023. Visiting hours will be at 10 am followed directly by a service at 11 am at Crosspoint Fellowship, 459 Hurley Ave., Hurley NY. 12443. His ashes will be scattered at a future time in a meadow.
