Nick's obituary

Mr. Nicholas "Nick" Gianis, 85, of Eagle Rock, CA, passed away on July 26, 2025, after a challenging battle with Emphysema.

Nick was born on April 27, 1940, to Sophie & Spiro Gianis in Los Angeles, CA.  Nick lost his mother, Sophie to Tuberculosis when he was 7 years old.  He lost his father, Spiro, unexpectedly when he was 39, which devastated Nick.  He met the love of his life, Sharon Kay, when he was 19, and they wed in 1962, going on to have two children who became everything to him.  Lisa was born in 1965, and Niko was born in 1967. Nick was a force of nature; determined to provide for his family and give them the life he wanted them to have. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he mentioned to everyone every chance he got. He was unendingly proud of his children and grandchildren.  His six grandchildren would become his pride and joy.  Anyone who knew Nick knew that he was the most loving husband, father, Pappou, uncle, father-in-law, and friend. Nick was predeceased by his father, Spiro, his mother, Sophie, and cousins Argie and Basiliki (Billie) who were more like sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife, his daughter and son, his six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.  The Visitation will be held at Forest Lawn Glendale from 5pm-9pm on Tuesday, August 19th.  The funeral service will be held at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 20th, at 11am.  The Makaria (Meal of Blessing) will be held immediately following the service at the Huffington Center at Saint Sophia Cathedral at 12pm.  The graveside Trisagion service will be held at Forest Lawn Glendale at 3:00pm.
