Nessie's obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nessie "Little Ness" Burton on June 11, 2023. Born on January 21, 2014, Nessie was a vibrant soul who touched the lives of everyone she met. If you ever met her, you know just how special of a dog she was. Her first vet described her as "the happiest dog he'd ever met." Predeceased by her sisters, Denali Burton and McKinley Schentag, Nessie is survived by her sister, Everest Burton, her nephew, Lincoln Schentag, and her two cats - Jack and Cleo, whom she loved very much.
Nessie moved from Colorado to Kansas City, KS in 2015, to Connecticut in 2016, then to Alaska in 2022, and then Grand Rapids, MI in 2022. She traveled anywhere and everywhere with her family in between. Her greatest love was going for a car-ride, no matter how long or short the journey. In her nearly 10 years of life, she traveled to 32 states and 6 Canadian Provinces. A dedicated family member, Nessie helped her father propose to her mother in 2014 and played an essential role in her parents' wedding on February 20, 2016. She did accidentally break mom's foot in 2016, but was quickly forgiven. She also experienced the loss of a sibling in 2017 and gained a new sibling in 2019, always remaining supportive and loving. She was the best big sister to Evie, and to numerous foster dogs and litters of kittens.
Nessie spent her whole life helping out in Veterinary Medicine (where her mom worked) at all the various clinics. She fostered and cared for too many kittens to count, foster dogs and even rabbits. She loved her two cats dearly, and was gentle with every animal she came into contact with. She served as a blood donor for other dogs in need and even went to visit the elderly at nursing homes, which she loved very much.
Nessie's favorite foods were French fries, Ice cream, and Socks. Her favorite recreational activities included hiking, camping, swimming, and traveling. Nessie loved vacationing in Alaska, Maine, and Cape Cod and cherished her time spent at any beach. She loved the ocean, fresh snowfall, boat rides and rolling in the sand. Her signature color was purple, reflecting her energetic and happy personality.
Described as happy, energetic, and a dog who loved everybody, Nessie's best lessons to share were to live life to the fullest and embrace happiness, kindness, and gentleness toward all people and animals. Her legacy of joy and compassion will be remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for the "Best Friends Animal Society." To support this cause in memory of Nessie, please visit https://everloved.com/life-of….
