Nathan's obituary
Nathan Madison Jr, 71 of Luverne, Al, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2022 surrounded by his wife and children. Nathan was born on September 7, 1950 to Nathan(PAP) Madison, Sr and Arthur Mae Madison in Pike County, Al.
At an early age he gave his life to Christ at Rock West Missionary Baptist Church, Goshen, Al. Nathan served as Chairman of the deacon board and junior deacon instructor. Later in life Nathan joined the Sweetwater Missionary Baptist in Highland Home, Al where he served as a dedicated deacon & President of Trustee Board. Nathan was well known as the loud mouth & devotional leader in the church community, also he enjoyed singing in the choir.
Nathan attended and graduated from Goshen High School in the Class of 1969, he enjoyed sports of playing basketball and track & field, loved the subject of math. Nathan went on to study at LBW and received an Assoc. Degree in Science. After graduation, Nathan joined the U.S. Marine Corps and fought in the Vietnam War where he served 2 years of service. Nathan worked at Luverne Slack Factory in Luverne, Al prior to start working for SAEC in Troy, Al in 1972 where he served faithfully as a hardworking & dedicated lineman & leader up to becoming a General Foreman for 50 years of service.
Nathan enjoyed outdoor activities with his John Deere and doing yard work and hunting. Nathan really enjoyed laughing, talking, and telling childhood stories & jokes. Nathan was well known for offering & sharing his love, time, & support with family & friends. He was a loving, dependable & devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, very dedicated Great Grandfather to his great grandson known as his G.G. (Jaxon).
He transitioned from this earthly world on Thursday March 24, 2022 surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Mary Hellon Hines, Cumi Merriweather, & Barbara Ann Rodgers.
He leaves to cherish his legacy & loving memories with his beloved wife Patricia Merritt Madison of 50 years whom he met in an early childhood as friends and they later wed in May of 1972 , going on to have 3 children/3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Nathan & Patricia was blessed with wonderful daughters: Juawana (Terry) Walker, Jurethia Andrea' Madison, Jessica Denise Madison; Grandchildren: Jashaante' (Chris) Ohanjanian, T'yanna Walker, Junathean Cleveland; Great Grandchild-Jaxon Ohanjanian. Nathan is survived by 2 sisters: Thelma Jean Shepard, Autrey Lee Bryant and Minnie Williams; 2 brothers: James Nelson Madison, Sr. and Foshen Madison, Sr and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special friends: Charlie (Bubba) Clark and Martin (Marty) West. In-laws: Charlie(Mary) Merritt, Varnor (Annie) Merritt, Juanita Merritt.
Nathan was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his family and always tried his best to support them.
