Natalie's obituary

Natalie Hamilton (Goldman) 73, of South Orange died of cancer in West Hollywood, California in the home of her son. She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Originally from Maplewood, NJ Natalie spent her last thirteen years living in South Orange and working for the New Jersey Adoption Resource Clearing House (NJ ARCH) where her singular passion for the issues surrounding adoption were perfectly matched with her singular abilities to care, empathize, and let others know – in her uniquely soft and reassuring way – that they were not alone.

An adoptee herself, Natalie’s dedication to the issue and to the people she served earned her the Angels In Adoption Award; she was presented the award during a ceremony in Washington, DC, which she proudly attended with her proud family in tow. Natalie also wrote a weekly newsletter “Natalie’s Corner” for NJ ARCH and compiled from scratch a library comprised of over 1,500 books and videos related to the subject of adoption. That library has been dedicated to her memory and is now “The Natalie Hamilton Memorial Library”.

Natalie leaves behind the most wonderful kind of legacy – one of kindness and caring and, above all else, unconditional love. Her smiles, always wide and genuine, will be missed; her signature giggle and her warm, unending hugs will always be yearned for, especially when warmth and unending hugs are needed.

Natalie is survived by her son, David Barry and her daughter Amy Kenny; her grandchildren Kelley and Victoria; cousin Kathe Serbin; sister Shirley Dobson; brothers Jim and David; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and by the many, many friends, colleagues, clients and acquaintances whose lives she touched in her special “Natalie” way. We will, all of us, miss her terribly.
