Nasser's obituary
Nasser "Nick" Vafaei Rahbar, 93, of Melville, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 30, 2022. He was born on August 17, 1929, in the village of Taleqan, Iran, to his parents, Ali-Asghar Vafaei Rahbar (b. Amoui-Taleghani) and Sadri Jahan Ghoroqi. As a youth, Nasser attended a military boarding school and later served as a First Lieutenant in the Imperial Iranian Air Force. His commitment to a free and liberal Iran was paramount.
He married his lifetime partner, Molouk "Parvin" Salehi, in 1958, selling his accordion to afford a dowry of a framed mirror, candleholders, and a Quran.
Nasser's military service was a defining aspect of his life which brought him and his family overseas in 1974 to New York, where he worked as an expeditor, coordinating the shipment of aircraft parts between the United States and Iran, until the Islamic Revolution in 1979. After this, he worked in management and as a mechanical instructor for the US Air Force in Fort Dix, NJ. His dedication to his work and his countries will never be forgotten.
In his retirement, Nasser enjoyed sudoku puzzles, spending time with his wife and family, and receiving visits from his daughter's dogs, Honey and Chick Pea.
Nasser is survived by his wife, Molouk, his sons, Kamran and Kaivan, his daughter, Kiandokht "Kay," his children-in-law, Richard Olivieri (Kay) and Teri Margolis (Kaivan), and his grandchildren, Michael "Mehrdad," Alessandra "Bahar," and Jack. He is also survived by his half-sisters, Moloud, Molouk, Sedigheh, and Mahboubeh.
