One year passed again. And of course I still think about you! Being older now, I miss your views on things as I have grown and changed (ofc I valued it before too!). I wonder how our discussions would have looked like today. What would say about the world in general, about your bubble, about mine? Your discussions were vivid, you spoke your mind and at the same time you valued your discussion partners always as humans and equals, a competence which seems to get forgotten more and more. You were a role model!
Yesterday would have been your birthday. In a couple of weeks Bernhard and I will marry as we said we would when you were leaving us. You are so missed. I would have loved it so much to have you also by my side. I know you are watching us <3
Yikes ….. what is the unfolding of grief ….. such a strange mysterious process ….. our hearts, our minds, our bodies ….. re-orienting to a new normal ?
May all of us receive the blessing of Nancy-visitations from time-to-time …..
Today would have been your birthday. You are still missed deeply, today. And every other day as well. You are in my thoughts and in my heart and I hope you are doing well whereever you are now..
Started the spring preparations around Nancy's memorial tree in anticipation of a prairie restoration burn. The tree is a living reminder of who she is as well as her deep dedication to nature. We miss our dear dear friend.Bill and Sandi
No pictures…just fun memories of walking around North Pond as it turned dark, stopping in 5 locations each time, to listen for frogs. Rarely heard any frogs but we enjoyed listening to the mallards quietly chatting among themselves.
Nancy. I miss you. There's not a month closing that I don't think about you. I can hear your voice, laughing while you talked. Vigilant guardian of financials. When I see people riding bikes in the rain, I think of your treks to the museum in rain gear, stories of your lakeside trail rides. Unstoppable Nancy. ❤
For those who remain - memories are fresh - available for summonsing: Nancy's Light, smile, voice, physical presence, take on the world. I can certainly, clearly, easily, see her, hear her.
2016, North Pond, North Cannon Drive, Chicago, IL, USA
We were frog monitors for a couple of years, which meant walking around the pond in the dark, listening for frogs for 30-60 minutes, along the eastern shore, listening to the mallards quietly muttering to each other and hoping people walking by on the pave path above didn’t wonder what the heck we were doing !
A hundred years from now, no one will care how much money Nancy earned, what kind of car she drove, or how big her house was. But the world might well be a better place because she made a difference in people's lives.
I miss you, Nancy. I miss your enthusiasm, the way you sometimes would get so excited you'd try to laugh and talk at the same time. I miss your cooking when you hosted our book group, seeing you ride up on your bike to weed at North Pond, showing us your own garden, debating the pros and cons of political candidates. I miss you, but these memories mean you aren't really gone from my life. --Peggy BL
Oh my... Nancy! Her extraordinary willingness to go against convention to make things happen! 1) Passing the plate during ILYM Annual Sessions to raise funds to sponsor a cause for which she had heart - unheard of! 2) Revamping the antiquated though charming ILYM accounting system to better manage and explain funds and fund allocation - long resisted and then admired! A soul willing to do heart work! 1) Carting around cookies to the pre-K kids - a delicious break for all! 2) Inviting an exchange youth in to her home and life - a cross-cultural boon! Oh my... how I miss her activism, her devotion, her heart.....
Sending love and strength to you, David - Nancy was such a special person and the world will miss her! Take care of yourself, till we see you again. Mary Buckley
"If we have a hope in Christ only in this life, then we deserve to be pitied more than anyone else. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead. He's the first crop of the harvest of those who have died." [1 Corinthians 15:19f Common English Bible]
It all depends on the One who has gone before us. May Nancy rest peacefully in those waiting arms until the New Creation; and may you rest in the assurance that, in the words of Julia of Norwich, "all will be well, and all will be well, and all will be well indeed!"
