Nancy's obituary

In Loving Memory of Nancy (Turner) Powell

August 9, 1930 – December 30, 2025

Nancy (Turner) Powell, 95, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of December 30, 2025, at St. Peter’s Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albany, New York. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, David, and the cherished family members who went before her.

Nancy was born on August 9, 1930, to Gordon and Sarah Brittain Turner and was raised in Needham, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of Needham High School and joyfully married her beloved Dave Powell. Together, they made their home in Medfield, Massachusetts, where Dave built a successful linoleum and tile business and they began raising their family. Later in life, they relocated to the peaceful countryside of Newfield, Maine, a place Nancy deeply cherished and truly considered home.

Nancy was sharp as a tack and full of joy. She had an incredible memory for classic films and could name nearly every movie star from Hollywood’s golden age. Her homemade bread-and-butter pickles and green tomato piccalilli were legendary and will be missed just as much as her laughter, wit, and warmth. She loved to entertain and was fondly remembered for her role as Lonnie in “Incident at East Lake.” She climbed to the summit of Mt. Katahdin at the age of 50, an accomplishment that perfectly reflected her strength and spirit.

She was the heart and matriarch of the Powell family. A smart, loving, and remarkable woman whose presence shaped generations. The gladiolus, her favorite flower, will forever bloom in her memory.

Nancy is survived by her children: Phil Powell; Kathy (Powell) Tuttle and her husband Tom; Glen Powell and his wife Carol; David Powell and his wife Claire; and son-in-law Ron Monroe. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband David and her daughter Elizabeth “Betty” (Powell) Monroe.

She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Alex Powell with sons George and Henry; Michaela (Powell) Cooper and her husband Derek; Elliot; Grace Powell and her wife Bianca Gonzalez; Jake (Monroe) Smith and his husband Dan; Rachel (Powell) Bedell and her husband Josh, with daughter Evelyn; and Samuel Monroe and his wife Molly, with daughter Karlee. Nancy was a proud great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.

Nancy was preceded in death by her brothers William “Billy” Turner, Frederick “Ginger” Turner, Thomas “Tommy” Turner, and Robert “Bobby” Turner, and her sisters Phyllis (Turner) Coffey, Margaret “Peggy” (Turner) Wolford, and Jane (Turner) Fisher. She is survived by her sisters Susan (Turner) Coffey and Patricia “Pat” (Turner) Coffey, both of Swansea, Massachusetts.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved. A private celebration of life will be held with family members in the spring.
