Our beloved parents, Bill and Nancy Shafer passed away after 61 years of marriage. Bill Leroy Shafer, 89, passed away on February 26, 2022 and Nancy Carole Shafer, 81, followed him in death only 2 weeks later on March 12, 2022. They were both declining recently but lived full and happy lives. Bill was born on May 10, 1932 in Searcy, Arkansas to John and Lucy Shafer. He was a quiet man with a quick smile who enjoyed fishing, golfing, cars and a good book. Nancy was born on December 22, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Emil and Lorraine Monhardt. She enjoyed travel, shopping, cooking and hanging out with her friends. As a couple, Bill and Nancy were inseparable and it is hard to imagine one without the other. They loved living in Florida and their community of friends at Long Bayou. Nancy and Bill were always socializing and traveling even if their travels were of the armchair variety in the last years.
They are survived by their daughter Diana, Nancy's sister, Lois and Bill's brother, Jim along with many, many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. They are predeceased by their daughter, Debbie and all of Bill's sisters. Services will take place on June 25th at 1130 am at Eden Memorial Park, 9851 W. Irving Park Rd, Schiller Park, IL 60176. Donations may be made to your local PBS (Public Television) station in lieu of flowers.
