My Aunt Nancy impressed on me and in-turn the rest of the kids growing up in Jutland several life skills and life lessons:

#1 Always pay attention around a dinner table -- Aunt Nancy's game of 'Pig" kept everyone quite attentive

#2 Never take other kids in a broken wagon -- Aunt Nancy's campfire song captured this life less quite well -- "You can't ride in my little red wagon, front-wheel's broken and the axles draggin, second versus same as the first, a little bit louder and a little bit worse"

#3 Never give up on your wishes -- Aunt Nancy's other campfire song - " I wish I was a little cake of soap, cake of soap, Oh I wish I was a little cake of soap, I'd go slippering and sliding over everybody's heiny, Oh I wish I was a little cake of soap!

In reality, my Aunt Nancy taught me to never to take yourself too seriously - life should celebrated by how often you laugh and smile and that is what I think my Aunt Nancy impressed upon me the most.

My deepest sympathies to Nancy’s family for this unexpected loss. May the seeds she planted in so many hearts continue to grow and flourish.
My condolences to Nancy's family. I first met Nancy when she became my graduate assistant at the College of William and Mary and we developed a great friendship. I supervised her dissertation which was one of the best the program in forever. What I loved most about Nancy was how she embraced multiculturalism and how she was so eager to teach others,l. Her brilliance shone through every day. I know she will be missed.
Helping hands

In lieu of flowers

Please consider a gift to Southern Poverty Law Center.
it’s impossible to describe the incredible positive impact Nancy had on my life and i’m likely just one of the thousands who would agree. This world will miss her dearly , i miss her, and I send the warmest most loving vibes to the family.  I will never forget her
I'm so sorry for the loss of Nancy. I'll always think of her whenever I go to Ithica, I remember the farm with the chickens at the bottom of the hill and she would walk down there and feed them and gather eggs.  It is no surprise her daughter has a farm too and I remember Jeremy and the sterno steam engine as well.

Send flowers

Share your sympathy. Send flowers from a local florist to Nancy's family or funeral.

Remembering her college break visits to Grammy Ochs's farm in our younger days and many long phone visits in our older age.  Though miles apart, we stayed close at heart. Her special sense of humor showed in her annual holiday notes and the endless stream of get well cards to cheer me during my long recuperation (115 days and not one duplicate card!)

Nancy was one of a kind. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.  We will be keeping you all in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time and the many days to come.

With love and deepest sympathy,

Paul and Donna
