Nancy was the best of everything , as a nurse, friend, mother, daughter, and I’m sure wife. I met her in the early 80’s, and we started out as nurse friends but our friendship grew. We shared so much over the years , as mothers raising our kids together, as nurses caring for our patients., as friends living life through it all life brought up until her passing. I miss her terribly , just want to pick up the phone and say hi, wanted to just hear your voice, check in on you. Her life impacted so many, mine own was blessed with her friendship until her last days. Forever a part of me, love you Nancy, I know you are resting in peace with Otis!
Over many years, when talking about nurses and nursing, I always said that Nancy was the absolute best ( and in 45 years of being a nurse, I have worked with many in many hospitals large and small). Not only kind and genuinely caring, she had a knack of getting to the heart of the matter and solving the issue appropriately and fairly. She and I followed similar career paths in the hospitals of the Keys -both of us ICU managers, supervisors, interim DON, Primary Care Clinic - in fact I was occasionally called "Nancy" and she was occasionally called by my name! As a manager of patients and staff, I would consult Nancy with problems I had encountered: moral, ethical, patient care issues, staff management issues. She always, as I said, got to the heart of the matter. We always worked it out. She told me that she thought of me the same- one of the best compliments of my nursing career. Please know that I said these same words to her throughout our years working together, before she was sick, and just a few months ago. She is resting in peace - a life well-lived and loved. But it still is heart-breaking.
