Nancy's obituary
We recently lost our beloved Mother, Nancy Jean Eveson Wallace, who peacefully passed into her next stage of life on May 22, 2025. Nancy was born on January 12, 1938, to John Thomas Eveson Jr. and Dorothy Marie Flick. She was raised in various towns around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, including on a farm in North Washington (Butler County)—a place she remembered fondly throughout her life.
In 1950, her family relocated to Saint Petersburg, Florida, where she graduated from Boca Ciega High School in 1955. That fall, she planned to attend Florida State University, but a job opportunity for her father led the family to move once again—this time to Dallas, Texas. There, Nancy became a proud Mustang, joined the Delta Zeta Sorority, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Southern Methodist University in 1960. While at SMU, Nancy met Carl Milton Wallace, a UT Student at the time, whom she also married in 1960. Together they built a life and raised four children: Kimberly, Kristen, Ronald, and James Russell.
Nancy worked briefly as a social worker before choosing to dedicate herself fully to her family. She was deeply involved in their lives and activities, including church, Scouts, school functions, band, and athletics—particularly gymnastics at Sokol Dallas. She was a faithful member of her church’s handbell choir and passed on her love of music to her children, playing several instruments herself.
When her children were older, she returned to public service as a school crossing guard for the City of Dallas, where her warmth and sense of humor brightened the lives of countless students and families.
Known for her vibrant energy and keen wit, Nancy was a lover of games, laughter, and good company. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and socializing with friends. Holiday gatherings often featured her favorite family game, Tripoli. Later in life, she enjoyed weekly games of canasta at the Richardson Senior Center.
Nancy was also an animal lover and shared many fond stories of Tippy, her childhood dog on the farm, and of the many pets she cherished over the years.
Nancy’s boundless spirit brightened every room she entered. She embraced life with curiosity and compassion—whether behind a handbell, across a canasta table, with a beloved pet at her side, or in conversation with someone from a different walk of life. Her open heart and love for people of all cultures reflected a deep appreciation for connection and learning. Nancy brought joy, laughter, and love into the lives of those around her. Her legacy lives on in every story shared, every smile sparked, and every life she touched. Even as her memory faded, her joy, humor, and kindness endured—leaving lasting impressions on everyone she met. She will be deeply missed—and forever remembered.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her eldest daughter, Kimberly; and her daughter-in-law, Anne Marie (Ronald). She is survived by her children Kristen (Jesse Gonzales), Ronald, and James Russell (Brian Vaughn); her daughter-in-law Cyndi Byrum (Kimberly); her granddaughter Shannon Wallace; grandson Kyle Correia; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 12 at 3:30 p.m. at Bentwood Trail Presbyterian Church, 6000 Bentwood Trail, Dallas, TX 75252. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://alz.org)
