Nancy's obituary

1941-2020
Nancy Lee Pinckney passed away on July 16th, 2020, at age 79. On a routine diagnosis of blood clots in her system, she was also diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She eventually passed within a small number of weeks, too fast for her to fight it (which she would have if given the chance) and also too early for her loving family and friends.
She was born Nancy Lee Goldsworthy on November 27th, 1941 to Herbert and Eleanor Goldsworthy. Herb owned a camera/photography shop in Santa Monica and Eleanor was a city Librarian in Escondido. She grew up with her two siblings, Pam and John, in a lovely and happy family environment. Nancy attended Escondido High School, then studied at the University of Redlands in the field of teaching.
Nancy married John Tindell in Burbank, California and they had two sons, Daniel and Christopher. Being an excellent and loving mother to them, she also pursued her career in teaching at McPherson Elementary School in Napa, California. She taught mostly 3rd-grade students for decades until retirement. She was an excellent teacher helping children to achieve and learn; in essence she was a giving, loving person. Later, she had a second marriage to Frederick Pinckney in Napa until her death in 2020.
Mom had a wonderful sense of humor. One memory which stands out was seeing the wacky comedy “Airplane” at the Uptown theater in 1980 with her two sons- we were all laughing hysterically. She also loved reading; fantasy, thrillers, horror- especially Stephen King, and would relate the fascinating and sometimes scary details of what she was reading. She became a San Francisco 49er’s fan as a result of her second marriage. She was more spiritual than religious, and taught her sons to think “outside the box.”
Nancy, like her mother Eleanor, was a “hub” of the family, keeping connections alive with her college friends and peripheral family members. While battling her illness, she was remarkably brave, saying “I am taking my own road,” and giving a fierce hug even though she was weakened. She was a positive, loving force to those who knew her. We are all grateful to have been given the gift of Nancy: wonderful friend, daughter, sister, mother, wife, teacher, and infinitely more. We will see her again.
