I have often said that Nancy inherited her empathy from my mom,Erna Wiechman. My brother and I, teenagers, used to giggle when Mama would read about a serial killer in the paper, and she'd say," Oh, I feel so sorry for his mother." Nancy had that empathy.
She was paralyzed and often used a bus service for people with disabilities. One day when the bus arrived and she got on, she could immediately see that the driver was inebriated. But Nancy didn't want her to get in trouble, so she just fastened her seatbelt and didn't say anything. Fortunately, a passerby saw that the bus was moving erratically and called 911. Soon the police came and arrested the driver and the bus company sent another driver and she went to her appointment. We miss her so very much.

Thinking of all of Nancy's loved ones during this sad time. I am thankful for the time I spent with Nancy at the family reunions. She was calm, witty, creative and engaging. I am proud to be her cousin and I miss her dearly.
