LAKELAND, Fla. — Nancy Carol (née Pearson) Smith, 82, died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023 with loved ones by her side at the Breezy Hills Rehabilitation & Care Center in Lakeland after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Nancy was born in Canandaigua, New York in 1941, attended Canandaigua schools, and graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1959. She lived in Clifton Springs, New York for much of her adult life, worshiped at Chapin United Methodist Church in Canandaigua, and worked at Canandaigua National Bank for more than three decades before retiring to Florida.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Leroy, in 2022; mother, Irene (née Buck) Pearson, in 1990; and father, Paul, in 1979. She is survived by her sister, Sylvia (Ken) Schreib; niece Cheryl (Tom) Wisnieski; nephew Kevin Schreib; four great-nieces and nephews; three great-great-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and extended family members.

Nancy was an avid fan of stock car racing. She and Leroy enjoyed spending Saturdays tailgating with friends at Canandaigua Motorsports Park and cheering on their favorite drivers. They also loved traveling by recreational vehicle — visiting and camping at race tracks and campgrounds all over the country.

In order to honor Nancy’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will occur at this time, although a small celebration of life may be held this spring in Canandaigua. Arrangements are being handled by the family and Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, (863) 686-2125.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Nancy and her beloved late poodle Heidi to the Ontario County Humane Society’s Happy Tails Animal Shelter, 2976 County Road 48, Canandaigua, NY, 14424. Tributes may be left at LakelandFuneralHome.com.
