Nancy's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy "Pookie" Smith on July 28, 2025. Born in 1952, Nancy, often lovingly referred to as "Pookie" by those who knew her, was a cherished figure in her community and her family.
Nancy is survived by a loving family, including her daughters, Stephanie Montoya and Jennifer Edwards; her sister, Lisa Smith, Donna Pollard, and Raby Carol; her brother, John Grimes; her grandsons, Dylan Hardy and Kael Schleicher; her granddaughters, Catalina and Valentina Ramirez; her niece, Melissa Lopez; and nephews, Johnathan Armstrong and Ben Grimes. She is also survived by her ex-husbands, Mike Mayo and John Smith.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ben and Tina Grimes, and her ex-husband, Paul Schleicher.
Nancy was a proud alumnus of Greenville High School, graduating in 1970. In 2004, she embarked on a new journey, starting her own business, My Little Things. Her dedication to her work was a testament to her strength, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit.
Outside of her professional life, Nancy was an ardent reader of the Bible and found great comfort and wisdom in its teachings. More than anything else, Nancy was deeply passionate about her family. She embraced her role as a mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt with immense love and care.
Her immense love for her family, her unwavering faith, and her entrepreneurial spirit will forever be remembered by all who knew her. Her presence will be sorely missed, but her legacy will live on through the love and values she instilled in her family.
