Celebrating the Life of Myra Denise Hayes
June 22, 1959 – March 6, 2026
Myra Denise (Akers) Hayes, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the age of 66. Born in Orlando, Florida, on June 22, 1959, Myra leaves behind a legacy of hard work, spirited celebration, and an enduring love for her family.
After marrying her husband, George Milton Hayes, Myra dedicated much of her life to building their future together in Central Florida. She was a cornerstone of the family business at A&B Electric Co., where she was known for her sharp business savvy and an unwavering work ethic. Myra approached her professional life with a consistent drive and a deep commitment to the family’s success, earning the respect of all who worked alongside her.
To know Myra was to know the sound of music and the gift of a good time. Whether she was sitting at the piano filling the room with melody, singing along to her favorite songs, or sharing a deep, soul-shaking laugh with her sister, Michele, Myra knew that life was meant to be celebrated. She was a legendary hostess, famous for throwing parties where every guest felt welcome. She had a rare gift for making every occasion feel significant.
Of all the titles she held, perhaps none fit her more perfectly than "Yaya." As a grandmother, Myra was in a league of her own. To Cricket, Maisie, and Hayes, she was a source of endless magic, playfulness, and unconditional love. She didn’t just watch them grow; she jumped into their worlds with both feet, ensuring they knew they were the center of hers. Her love will remain a steady, protective presence in their lives as they grow, living on in the laughter and curiosity she so dearly nurtured in them.
Myra’s memory is carried forward by her husband, George; her daughters, Emily Jerushia (Hayes) Bailey and Katie Hayes Carhart; and her sons-in-law, John Bailey and Jason Carhart; and her grandchildren, Cricket, Maisie, and Hayes. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Michele Lorraine (Akers) Payton, along with a large, loving circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She now rejoins those who went before her: her parents, Allen and Ellen Akers, and her brothers, David Allen Akers and Gregory Wayne Akers.
In keeping with Myra’s love for a grand gathering, a Celebration of Life will be held this summer in Georgia near her home in Ball Ground; a time for family and friends to gather and honor a truly special woman. Additional details will be shared by the family in the coming weeks.
Myra taught us that a life well-lived is measured by the laughter we share and the music we leave behind. She will be missed beyond words but remembered with a smile.
