Mushu's obituary
Mushu Tiger Liusz
December 31, 2006 - February 17, 2022
Last night our dearest Mushu crossed over the rainbow bridge; with heavy hearts we said goodbye to our most beloved family dog.
After an entire childhood of asking for a dog, our parents finally gave their blessing to bring Mushu home after hours of negotiations, contracts and promises. That was 15 years ago. We were instantly in love with him. Shortly after joining our family, at his first medical appointment, we were told that he was born with a liver shunt, which would mean a shortened lifespan and an inability to process proteins. We were devastated but not deterred; Lauryn put Mushu on a vegetarian diet and started him on a lifetime of nightly pills wrapped in cheese singles. Dad drew up a new contract, setting parameters and making Lauryn promise not to spend over a certain amount on Mushu’s medical bills, given his condition.
Despite his early diagnosis, Mushu thrived as a family member and took his role as lapdog very seriously. When not on the warmest and comfiest lap available, he would be under the table asking for fruits and veggies - lettuce being one of his favorites. When he was left at home for any period of time, Mushu spent his time watching and waiting for the family to return home through the front living room window. His ferocious barking surely deterred a number of unwelcome visitors. “Mushu” means small but mighty, afterall.
Mushu eventually moved out of his childhood home and in with Lauryn and Dylan, who cared for Mushu until his passing. He could frequently be found on Dylan’s lap, near his workstation, or on the heated seats of Dylan’s car when Lauryn was at work.
Over the last 15 years, Mushu taught us the meaning of companionship. He will always be in our hearts as our first dog.
