Mrs. Markie's obituary

God has rested the soul of Markie McClendon Thomas who transitioned into glory on January 25, 2021. She was the daughter of Booker T. and Emma Woodard McClendon. Markie was a child of God and didn't mind sharing Him with anyone. She was married to the late George E. Thomas for 58 years. She filled her life with 46 years of employment between Holiday Inn and Drury Inn before retirement. Traveling, reading, trying her hand at cooking exotic dishes , playing spades, laughing with you and about you, everything Mobile Mardi Gras being Wragg Swamp's first crowned queen, never meeting a stranger and giving major hugs gave her much pleasure during her lifetime. She drew divine inspiration from Nazaree Full Gospel Church for over fifty years.
She leaves Tommy, Gwendolyn (Phillip Gregory, Jr), Rickey (Retha), Darryl (Juanita), and Harold to grow closer to Christ, celebrate her life, support each other and love others. Margo T. Wilson preceded her to glory four years ago.

Her legacy will be extended through her grandchildren: Marcus Gregory Sr, Lawanda T. Williams, Atalia Robinson, Tanisha Jones, Nigel Gregory, Lauryn Wilson, Tabitha Gregory, William Gregory, Tamedren Jackson, Jennifer Gregory and Simone Wilson. Her lineage flows into her great grandchildren: Ashley, Marcus Jr, and Jayden Gregory, Amir, Aniya and Askia Williams, LaDarion Robinson and Keyshawn Triskey , Isaiah, Nathan and Seth Gregory, Nova Wilson, LaDasia Sheffield, Sincere Sheffield, Saniya Kirkland and Jada Gregory, Destiny and Bryson Palmer and Evan Wilson. She became a great great grandmother when Malia Flemister and Journiyah Moore were born in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Markie was both Mother and oldest Sister to Emma Myers, Marvin McClendon(Dorothy) Deborah McClendon and Jennifer McClendon.
Her special love flowed to Langford and Nettie Morrisette, Leon and Rose Frye, Midge Pope, Tyra Myers Bendolph, Sean McClendon and Melvin Vincent Chapman. Her family is completed with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, neighbors and church family.

The visitation will be held Monday 1 February 2021 4:00-8:00PM at Smalls Mortuary . The Funeral service will be held at Smalls Mortuary Chapel Tuesday 2 February at 11:00AM. Due to COVID restrictions only 75 people will be allowed in the chapel. The address is 950 S. Broad St. Mobile Al 36603
Her body will be buried at Whispering Pine Cemetery off St. Stephens Road in Prichard immediately after the funeral.
