Margaret's obituary

Longtime beloved native and servant in Christ, Mrs. Margaret Louise Oliver-Henderson peacefully transitioned on Sunday, February 28th, 2021, at the glorious age of 87 years, in the comfort of her home and in company of her son, Curtis Oliver, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Born July 28, 1933 by the hands of her Grandma Lela, a "medicine woman"/midwife, in Lincoln County, Mississippi to her father Curtis and Minerva (Porter Richardson) Oliver, she was the 9th of II siblings (3 half-siblings). In 1942, her mother passed away from illness, and she was raised by her mother's sister "Missy", close relatives, and elder siblings. While she looked after her many nieces and nephews, she attended Rose Hill Church and School until the 8th grade, priding herself in studying the bible. Her favorite scripture was 2 Chronicles 7:12-16.

A bright, independent, strong-willed woman of service: She shared stories of purchasing her first home from her own savings and was never too proud to work hard for what she earned. Early on, like many of her time, she cleaned houses. She prided herself as a trained Chef of the Holiday Inn and Cook for First Baptist Church. Much of the community also knew her as "The AVON Lady'' and active AARP member. Her most important calling was her dedicated service as Usher President, Fellowship Hall President, Asst. Sunday School Superintendent, Church Missionary, and Deaconess alongside Deacon Herman Henderson for over 19 years at Second Baptist Church, in Brookhaven, MS.

On any given Sunday, you would catch her singing "Come to Jesus~ "I Need Thee': or "Yes Jesus Loves Me", while cooking delicious meals for others, and "ripping 'n' running" to get things done before noon. She took pride in her father's half Native Indian lineage, and her boundless energy came from eating healthy and knowing natural medicine, which she learned from her stepmother. She was the Matriarch of our family, caring for many of her elders, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, wholeheartedly.

She is survived by her son Curtis Oliver (Brookhaven, MS), Brother James L. "Sonny" Oliver (Slidell, LA), her I5 grandchildren: Grandsons: Jarrie] Oliver, Trarrick L. Oliver, Calvin A. D. "Mon" Oliver II ( wife Lakeisha Kay Oliver), Patrick H. Oliver (their brothers Dempsey, Derrick, and Ricky Clark), Lamar Cook, Christopher Onassis Oliver (and their sister Jasmine Trass Littles). Granddaughters: Katrina Harris Deloach, Truncy A. Daniels (husband Tyrin Daniels), Angela Atlantis Oliver, Sharhonda Oliver Lenoir (husband Steve Lenior), and Amber N. Watson. She had over 17 great-grandchildren who she loved dearly.

Her extensive family includes Mrs. Bessie Oliver (Ohio), close cousins, Mrs. Geraldine Lee, nieces Chrissy, Ruthie and Margo Oliver of Texas, Helen Oliver-Cedeno (Lansing, Michigan), lifelong church-family Sis. Elaine Rancifer and Mrs. Celestine Eley, and her daughter-in-law's Frances, Emma, and Jane.

She was preceded in death by her faithful, loving, husband Herman Henderson (1924-2005) and in-laws; Parents: Minerva
Richardson Oliver (19-1942) and Curtis Oliver Sr. (-1955); Siblings: brothers, John Oliver (1908-1980), A. D. Oliver (1924-
1980), Robert Oliver (1927-), Louis Oliver (1929-1958), Jessie Oliver (1931-1980), Curtis "June" Oliver (1938-2013); sister
Beatrice Oliver Kelly (1922-1998); Children: son, Bobby Ray Oliver (I 956-1958), daughter, Caroline Marie Oliver (I 954- 1958), eldest son, Henry Lee "Butch" Oliver (1950-2010), and son Calvin
Oliver I (1955-2012).

She was blessed with countless friends, near-and-dear aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and her Second Baptist Church family. She touched many in this community and was a treasure that will be missed by many.
