Morris's obituary
Morris Ellington III, born on August 1, 1954, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Morris and Louise Ellington Jr., passed away on December 7, 2024, in New Braunfels, Texas. He was the eldest of four siblings.
Morris devoted his life to serving others, a principle he upheld both professionally and personally. He often reminded his children, “All that matters in life is what we do for others,” a philosophy he embodied throughout his career as a Professional Development Program Manager at the University of Texas, San Antonio. In this role, he guided students transitioning from college to the workforce, offering lectures on career growth and assisting with resumes and interview preparation. His dedication extended beyond his career when he took early retirement to care for his aging parents, ensuring they spent their final years in the comfort of their home.
Above all, Morris found his greatest joy and purpose in being a father to his three children: Alicia Michelle, Christopher Morris, and Christina Dion Ellington. As a single father, he raised Alicia and Chris with unwavering love and commitment. His bond with his special needs daughter, Christina, was especially profound. Morris often expressed gratitude for the privilege of being entrusted with her care, considering it one of life’s greatest blessings. His selflessness and devotion to his children defined him as a father who consistently went above and beyond.
A man of simplicity and quiet strength, Morris cherished music, particularly 1960s and 1970s Rock and Roll, with The Beatles holding a special place in his heart. He was an avid reader of authors like Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and John Grisham, though his favorite book was the Bible, which he read cover to cover multiple times. Golf and fishing were lifelong hobbies he enjoyed sharing with his son Chris and his best friend Gary Copeland.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Keith Ellington. He is survived by his three children and his two sisters, Laura Halford and Nancy Ellington Keith, who lovingly held his hand as he took his final breath.
Per his wishes, services will be held in Ackerman, Mississippi, in October 2025.
May the memory of Morris Ellington III bring comfort to those who knew him and inspire others through his gentle spirit and servant’s heart.
