I met Morris in 2017, and from day one, I knew he was someone I liked and who I could trust. We went through some extremely difficult business moments together—competing for the Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation license, navigating conflict, and then building the company once we won. Through all of that, Morris showed me exactly who he was: steady, honorable, and the kind of man whose word you never had to question. My respect for him only grew from there.
When we started down the path in 2023 to become co-founders of a new venture, it felt natural—like the next step in a relationship built on trust. But what I cherish most isn’t the business partnership. It’s the friendship we created. Morris was truly one of a kind. He had this rare mix of strength, kindness, intelligence, and humor that made people want to be around him. He was good at so many things, but one of my favorites was listening to him tell stories.
One memory will always make me laugh. I do most of my reading through audiobooks, so when Morris told me about the book he wrote—Fracked—I immediately added it to my queue. By pure coincidence, the moment my previous audiobook ended, I happened to be stepping into the shower. Suddenly, Morris’s voice—narrating the book himself—starts reading to me. I couldn’t help but laugh. I called him right away, and his response was perfect: “Well, that’s unfortunate.” That was Morris—dry humor, perfect timing, and so authentically himself.
I’m so grateful we were able to visit him in Traverse City, not knowing at the time he would be gone just 5 days later. That time with him, Laurie, Lila, and Spencer meant a lot. Their love for each other is so clear and so deep. And that love extended to his friends too. Morris lived with passion, purpose, and heart.
Morris, you left this world far too soon, but you also left a mark that will not fade. You shaped people, you built things that mattered, and you made the world better just by being in it. I am honored to have known you, worked beside you, and called you my friend.
Thank you for everything. You will never be forgotten.

Meeting Mo, being chosen as his general counsel for Texas Original, and becoming close friends with the most Texas Original guy I have ever met, is one of the highlights of my professional and personal life.  I loved working with him, helping him navigate through some difficult challenges and celebrating some amazing achievements with the company he co-created and literally gave his heart to, but more than that, I loved just being with him, the friendship we developed, and listening to his stories and all the lessons he had learned through his life.  He touched so many people with his big beautiful heart, and I will always be grateful for his friendship and love which helped carry me through some of my own challenges late in life, and helped me make sense of some things I had long wanted to forget.  I could listen to him talk forever, with that deep, heartfelt Texas drawl and the way he could pull out the emotions embedded in every story he told.  I loved listening to his audio book, which took me back to my roots in the Oklahoma oil patch, and I look forward to listening to it time and again just to hear his comforting voice as I drive through the Texas Hill Country, knowing that everything is going to be ok, and that I will see him again on the other side some day, which is the last thing he told me.   Love you Mo, and thank you for all the love you showed me.  I will never forget you!
I was one of the fortunate ones to meet Morris when he was running a medical cannabis company.  He was so fun and refreshing to work with and became more than just a colleague (in fact, I always tell people he was one of my very favorite clients to work with, but someone I would consider a friend.  Fly high,  Morris.  You were truly one of the good ones!
My life was so much better knowing you Mo. You added color and texture like no other. I know you will be making heaven a little more cowboy Feng shui.
I’ll always be grateful for Morris’ kindness and willingness to help me personally with one of the most important challenges in my life. Morris had many closer friends and more important acquaintances than me, but every time I saw him in downtown Austin or playing golf or wherever, even after years of not seeing him, he treated me like I was important to him. Sending strength and love to his family from Austin. ❤️
Rest in peace Mo. You’ll truly be missed Bud.  ⛳🎵🚴
