Hey guys, I don’t have much of my memory left, but I do remember two things about Nikki other than the wonderfully amazing person she was.

Let me give you a little backstory first. Shelley was my best friend from either elementary school or middle school until one year in high school when she moved, but we’ve been great friends since then and I still consider her one of my best friends. Shelley and I hung out together all the time we were like sisters and as much as I was there, Nikki was like a sister to me too and treated me like I was a sister to her.

So I’m not quite sure what year this started, but I think it was as freshman in high school for Shelley and I. This was back in either 1989 or the early 90s back when people like Nikki had the high hair-sprayed (Aqua-net) hair, feathered hair, hairstyles with bangs, (that’s the little section of hair that covers your forehead, usually down to your eyebrows or so). Lol, anyway, it was also the time when there were a lot of airheads, ditzy people, and what we called Valley girls.

Well, this one particular day I either did or said something and I don’t remember what it was but Nikki told me. “Ahhh, you’re having a Shelley moment!” And of course I did not know what that meant so I had to ask. Nikki explained, “it’s when you do something ditzy or air headed….like Shelley!” I laughed so hard because it made perfect sense and was 100% accurate! It became a regular quote from several of us. If any of us did or said anything ditzy or airheaded we had a “Shelley moment.” I still say it in my head when I have a Shelley moment 🤣🤣🤣.

The other memory I have his when we were in New Jersey at Nikki and Shelley‘s mom‘s. We were actually in the big house, not the little house and I remember that because there was a duck phone. A duck phone is a landline telephone that looks like a duck and quacks when it rings.

Anyway, we were hanging out and I was spending the night and obviously Nikki forced us to watch a horror show and I know she forced us because Shelley and I would never watch horror of our own free will….. ever!!!!

I believe it was a series called Tales from the Crypt and it had a lot of little short episodes. I may or may not be right about the title, but the only one coming to mind was called three on a meat hook. This particular episode that we saw a boy would bring his friends home usually girls and the father would send him out to go do something and while he was out, the father would kill the girl hang them on a meat hook, and then cut parts off of them off and cook them to eat for dinner. Not only was I mortified, but that stupid duck phone quacked!!!right as the episode was ending and I screamed so loud, and then Shelley screamed and we all jumped and Nikki laughed at us and I don’t even remember anything after that, but I think that was my last time going to the big house, at night anyway.
