Monica's obituary
Monica Clare King, 71 peacefully embraced the light and ended her private battle with leukemia on April 28, 2025 at her home in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Driven by compassion for others, Monica earned her Bachelors Degree at Michigan State University and her MSW at Wayne State University and worked as a therapist for 30 years. She was a quiet angel in her community, often namelessly gifting to others. She co-founded the Ypsilanti Time Bank, an hour exchange program where residents freely traded time/skills for their needs instead of currency. Monica was very active in local political campaigns and authored petitions for resident safety. She also participated in numerous national campaigns and protests. Only weeks ago she attended a women's march in Washington DC. In her younger years, Monica volunteered and advocated for women's rights, homeless and disadvantaged rights, Fermi, and nuclear interventionism in Latin America, and countless other causes. Monica loved nature and was passionate about the environment, insisting on using only a hand lawn mower and many permaculture techniques in her treasured depot town garden. She was a good friend who cared about others and making the world a better place.
Monica is survived by her beloved cat, Mango, brother John King, sister Stephanie (Bruce) Benz, nephew John King IV, nieces Lyndie King, Alexis Watkins, and Maris Benz. She is preceded in death by her parents Rita and John R. King.
