Background
Our mom’s journey came to a peaceful end at 6:00 PM (GMT +4) on May 23, 2024, at Kings Hospital in Dubai. She was with Ashiana and the family when she took her last breath. After we lost our Dad, Dr. Shamsher Singh Dhillon, the love of her life, on September 30, 2022, Mom was never the same, and never quite accepted him leaving.
She had undergone treatment for hydrocephalus, but dementia had started to progress. As a family, we did not want her to be alone despite her insistence on living in Mombasa. After Dad passed, Ashiana and Rennu took turns being with her in Mombasa. Mom spent a few months in London with Ashiana during her brain shunt surgery. She then spent 10 weeks in San Francisco with Rennu, Baldi, and the family. During this time, Mom got to meet all her grandkids and great-grandkids. Finally, in January 2024, we decided to bring her to live in Dubai. Our plan was for her to split her time between Ashiana and Rennu.
Her green card immigration was approved and just pending final formalities. The day before she passed, her Dubai residency was also almost final. Mom fought the battle with dementia until her last day. She continued to remember all of us and engaged in fun conversations, recalling her wonderful memories with Dad, including their beautiful love story. Mom and Dad had fought all odds to be together, a true Heer-Ranja love story.
In honor of her passion and love for children, we are supporting the Neev Kolte & Brave Ronil Foundation. This choice is deeply personal, as Rennu and Baldi had connected with Neev's family in the United States during their challenging times. Your contributions will support vital research aimed at finding a cure for DIPG, a rare and aggressive brain tumor affecting children. Contribute to Neev Kolte & Brave Ronil Foundation
