Mitchell's obituary

Mitchell Alma Smith age 66 passed away on April 15, 2021 from complications after surgery. Mitchell was the father of 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy and at the time of his passing had 9 grandchildren who were the joy of his life. He was born in Canada and was 1 of 5 children 4 living to adulthood. He loved his 3 sisters and all of his many nieces and nephews. Our Dad loved the outdoors. He was a graduate of Outward Bound Summer and Winter Courses in British Columbia in 1971 and 1972 and a graduate of the BYU Survival Summer in 1972. He served as a scoutmaster for 51 months and camped outside 50 months in Utah in the Summer and Winter. As part of his scouting experiences he served at Woodbadge 3 times, he was Quartermaster once and attended course master training. Education and work were also important to him. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts. He owned and operated Promotional Systems an educational robot company before going to work at Wordperfect and then Novell as a Trainer. He received an achievement award at Brainshare which he said seemed like a big deal at the time. His work allowed him to find a passion for travelling and he visited 49 of the 50 states, circled the globe 3 times and traveled to 6 of 7 continents and attended Temples on all of them. Our Dad was a master teacher and storyteller and loved people. He was able to fulfill a lifelong goal of serving a missionary first as a young elder in Los Angeles and then in Bluff Utah where he was serving at the time of his death. He loved the people he served with in any capacity and loved his friends.
