Mitchell Jay Sayre Jr., known to most as "Mike," passed away peacefully at home in Portland, Oregon, on March 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73 years old.
Born on January 6, 1952, in Oregon City, Oregon, Mike’s life was filled with love, humor, and a strong faith that guided him through every challenge. He married the love of his life, Carol, in 1972 in Portland, Oregon. Over the five decades they spent together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising three children: Sabrena, Gail, and Mikey. Mike was also a proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy.
Mike served honorably in the United States Air Force, where he was known for his strong sense of duty and camaraderie. After his military service, he pursued his passion for cooking, enrolling in culinary school to become a chef. He was known for his love of cooking, often inspired by cooking shows and experimenting with new recipes. His home was a place where the kitchen was always alive with the aromas of delicious meals shared with family and friends.
In addition to his culinary talent, Mike was loved for his quick wit, humor, and sharp, sarcastic sense of humor that could light up any room. He was deeply committed to his Christian faith, which provided him with strength and comfort throughout his life. His faith, family, and love of cooking were the cornerstones of his being, and he will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering faith.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charlie and Dan. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol, his three children, his sister Lucy, his nine grandchildren, and his two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local charity or cause dear to Mike’s heart.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
