Background
On April 4, 2026, Baker, Louisiana lost one of its greatest. Mr. Mitchell Wayne Jackson, athlete, coach, campaign manager, community servant, devoted husband, loving father, and the proudest Baker High School graduate you ever met, went home to be with the Lord.
Mitchell gave everything he had to this community. He coached its children. He championed its leaders. He showed up for Baker long before anyone asked him to, and he never stopped. Now, in his honor, his family is asking Baker to show up for what he believed in most, the young people.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established The Mitchell Jackson Legacy Scholarship Fund, dedicated to supporting students in the City of Baker. Because Mitchell understood something deeply: opportunity changes lives. And if he could pour into young people on a baseball diamond and a basketball court, the least we can do is make sure those same young people have a path forward when their playing days are done.
This is not just a donation. This is a continuation of everything Mitchell was. Every dollar contributed plants a seed in a Baker student's future, exactly the kind of legacy a man like Mitchell Jackson deserves to leave behind.
