My brother and I promised our parents that we would do our very best to help them live their golden years at the home they loved. Together they built a small country home on their lake surrounded by wildflowers and nature. Preservation of wildlife and their wildflower bog was their passion. Our mother, Minnie, spent the last two years of her life bedridden, requiring 24/7 home healthcare and hospice comfort care. It was an expensive promise to keep, yet worth every penney to see her enjoy watching the birds, butterflies and deer through her picture window. To see her face light up when fish would surface the lake spawned happy memories of she and our dad fishing from their dock. We were blessed with the most loving parents in this world! A nursing home would have sadly removed our mother from the nature she loved so much. We did the right thing. We fulfilled our promise to them, but it left us with thousands of dollars in debt.
