Mildred's obituary

Mildred Cholevitz Berman, age 88, died Monday at the Jewish Home of NEPA. She was the beloved wife of Morris Berman. The couple had been married 58 years.

Mildred was born June 15, 1915 in Scranton, the daughter of Charles and Sadie Rosenberg Cholevitz. She attended N. Scranton Junior High (where she received an award for penmanship), Scranton Tech H.S. class of 1933, and Lackawanna College.

Until her marriage, she was employed at her uncle Leon Rosenberg's store "The Luggage Shop" on 123 Penn Ave. She was known for her impeccable style, grace, and elegance.

"Millie" was a member of the Abovath Shalom Congregation in the Providence section of Scranton, the Ohav Zedek Congregation on Mulberry Street, the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary,  and the Hebrew Day School Auxiliary. She was presented with  the "Volunteer of the Year"  award in Honor and with Deep Appreciation of faithful and dedicated service to the Jewish Home of NEPA on May 29, 1986.

Both she and her husband enjoyed classical music, had season tickets to the Broadway Theater League, and traveled to Atlantic City casinos and Boardwalk. On Thursday afternoons she could be found playing Bridge or Canasta card games with her friends.

Mildred was a very loving wife and mother. She was deeply missed by her husband Morris, beloved son Charles Bernard Berman (Bonita Lea Timins), numerous extended family, and all who knew her.

The funeral was Tuesday at 11 a.m. graveside in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery in the Providence/Linden St. Section with services by Rabbi Mordechai Fine. Shiva was observed at home on 417 N. Webster Ave., Scranton.
