Mike's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mike "Bug" Williams, a remarkable man and driving force in the fight for youth outreach, domestic violence awareness, and childhood disease awareness. Born in 1971 and departing from us too soon on June 30, 2024, Mike lived a life marked by tenacity, humour, and immeasurable love for his family.
Such was Mike's nature; he was known as "Bug" to some, but he always preferred Mike. He offered a vibrant personality to those who knew him, best described as ridiculously funny, smart, quick-witted, giving, analytical, tough, and warm.
Mike was profoundly family-focused. He is survived by his children, MJ Williams, Michael Williams Jr., and Jensen (JJ) Williams. Each child was a source of pride and joy for Mike, from their smallest achievements to their substantial milestones. He took particular delight in his youngest's oil paintings, an exceptional display of emerging talent.
In 2000, Mike married the love of his life, Eliana Rose Gutierrez. Although she predeceased him, their bond remained strong, and the love they shared was evident in their connection with their children and the broader community.
Mike's favourite activities reflected his love for life and adventure, including restoring old motorcycles, hiking, and playing Scattergories. He was a fervent supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes and had a distinct taste for classic rock music, complemented by his daughter's music. He cherished his daughter's high school plays and was often seen revelling in the glory of her performances.
His favourite books, TV shows, and movies reflected his eclectic tastes, with Dexter, The Flash, Cold Case Files, The Shining, The Godfather, Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, and Requiem For A Dream topping his list. A lover of the outdoors, Mike often retreated to Hocking Hills and held a particular fondness for Cancun, his favourite vacation spot.
In 2009, Mike moved to Columbus, OH, where he set up the Youth Outreach Program "Tiny Sanctuaries" in 2010. Through his astounding outreach efforts, he helped over 500 kids, reinforcing his belief that "Nobody is a lost cause, there is always a light at the end of every tunnel. The only way out is through."
The void left by Mike's passing remains filled with the astonishing legacy of strength and empowerment. He leaves behind a beacon of hope, a testament to his relentless drive to make a difference. Emerald green, his favourite colour, is but a symbol of his enduring commitment to the causes he held dear.
Mike would want everyone to know that even though he's not around, he remains with us, now at peace with his love in a beautiful and eternal place of warmth and glory. His laughter, wisdom, and irreplaceable spirit continue echoing in our hearts, guiding us forward, reminding us to stay strong, stay hopeful, and, most importantly, stay kind.
