Mike's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful transition of Mr. Robert Michael "Mike" Shillinglaw on May 15, 2023. Born on August 16, 1943, Mike was a beacon of light and strength to all who knew him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Annabelle Shillinglaw; his daughter, Laura Delano; his sons, Joe Shillinglaw, and Alex Shillinglaw. He also leaves behind his stepchildren; Bethany Semore her spouse, Dan Semore; David Bodero his spouse, Dominic Bodero. His sisters, Linda (Pete) Lukevich and Janet are left to mourn their beloved brother. He is also fondly remembered by his grandchildren, great grand children, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Robert M "Bob" Shillinglaw and Marguerite "Peggy" Shillinglaw.
Mike was an alumnus of Bishop Blanchet High School. He proudly served in the US Navy. His industriousness led him to a long-standing career which began at the Marina, moved to his family's machine shop, and culminated at Union Forge where he worked until his retirement.
Outside of his work, Mike was known for his love of volunteering, particularly at the Eglon Volunteer Fire Dept. He was also an active attendee at the OVAC Olympic Vintage Auto Club, indulging his love for vintage cars.
Mike had a zest for life that was reflected in his recreational activities. Whether it was tinkering around his shop, meticulously landscaping his yard, attending car swap meets, or simply enjoying television, Mike found joy in everyday life.
Known for his big-heartedness, generosity, reliability, and trustworthiness, Mike lived by the principle of being there for others and offering help whenever he could. Some of his proudest accomplishments included building a trebuchet in his backyard and participating in Vintage Car Races.
Mike's legacy will forever be tangibly present in his acts of kindness and the solid relationships he built throughout his life. He was generous to a fault and dedicated to the welfare of others. As we remember Mike, we celebrate his life filled with service, friendship, love, and an undying spirit of generosity.
