I met Mike on the first ever MAN WEEK trip to NOLA. Right from the start he was all the things that define him: humble, funny, hard working, and adventurous. The moment that rises above the rest of the memories is me standing waist deep in the swamp with nothing but tiki torches and atv headlights for illumination. It was the first time I'd ever asked if anyone wanted to be baptized and I knew they needed to really want it to come out in the swamp water. Right away, Mike comes rushing out into the water, no hesitation. The fact that we were in a swamp didn't faze him at all, but the joy coming out of him when he came up out of that water fazed me. I would remember that moment every time we saw each other over the years since... usually around a wood splitter. He's a part of my story now, I think about him at every baptism and every time I work a wood splitter. So glad I got to know him here, can't wait to see him again up there.
My best memory of Mike was at Crossroads BaseCamp a few years back. It was a weekend for just Trip Captains and MASH dudes. It was mostly a hot, lazy weekend in the woods. But there was Mike cooking up some great food, and best of all, he was making ice cream! Thanks for serving us Mike!
