Miguel "Michael"'s obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Miguel "Michael" "Mikey" Martinez, a radiant soul full of joy and compassion. Born on May 9, 1961, this joyful, silly, compassionate, and radiant man left us too soon on February 10, 2026.

Known affectionately as Mike to most, he always preferred to be called Mikey. His infectious happiness and relentless spirit of joy made him a beacon of light in all the lives of those he touched. He embodied the principles he show to others - "Kindness costs nothing", "Be joyful as often as you can", "Your differences make you special", and "Smile whenever you can!".

Throughout his life, Michael defied the odds and accomplished feats that were thought impossible. His decades with Special Olympics earned him several gold medals in Softball throw and the 50-meter dash. His legacy, however, was not defined by the medals on his wall, but the smiles he inspired in the faces of those around him. Mike will always be remembered for his legacy of joy, his defiance of the odds, and his unwavering belief that no one should be told who they are or what they can achieve. He radiated positivity, always encouraging those around him to "Smile always!".

Michael had a heart for simple pleasures. He was a passionate fan of Godzilla, the Power Rangers - especially the Red Ranger, and comic book heroes such as Superman, Batman and of course Spiderman. He also found joy in game shows that echoed his love for laughter and fun.

Michael leaves behind his beloved family, Brother Domingo Jr and wife Nancy, Sister Norma Martinez Stricklen and husband Eddie, Sister in law Susan Martinez and countless nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Michael was proceeded in death by parents Angela and Domingo Martinez, brother Richard who was born in Heaven and oldest Brother Juan "Johnny" Martinez. We celebrate Mike's life along with all who knew him and will continue to honor his legacyt and cherish the moments we shared with him.

A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held on February 27, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Pathway Church in Burleson.

In leu of flowers, should you feel led, we are asking for donations in Michael's name to Special Olympics of Texas, the place he felt seen and loved with the ability to compete with athletes just as special as him.
