Michelle's obituary
Michelle Sims was born on August 23, 1960, to the late Robert and Lillie Mae
Roberson in Chicago, Illinois. She was the youngest of eleven children. Michelle
peacefully fell asleep in the early morning on July 7, 2023. She was surrounded
by her loving family.
At a young age she so eloquently showed beauty, grace and talent for many
creative arts. Michelle attended the Cassopolis Public School system. She
graduated from Ross Beatty High School in 1978, where she earned and received
many different honors. Upon graduation she extended her education by
receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the prestigious University of Michigan
in 1986. In 2000, Michelle graduated from the University of Phoenix with a
Master’s of Arts Degree.
Michelle had a genuine love for people and the Lord. She accepted Christ at a
young age while attending Christ Tabernacle All Nations Apostolic Church in
Cassopolis, Michigan along with her siblings. She understood the importance of
being a Godly example to young people. She mentored many young women and
men over the years. Being one of the first in her church community to “go
away” to college, Michelle would say, “I know the young people are watching,
so I’m going to make sure I get this right, for them.” and she did.
Michelle began her lucrative career with State Farm as a claims adjuster. She
opened the Michelle Sims - State Farm Insurance Agency in 1996. In business
she not only offered individuals and families insurance packages, but her mission
was to help people manage the risks of everyday life, recover from the unexpected
and realize their dreams. Michelle believed in providing opportunities
to people close to her and hired them at her agency. Prior to becoming an agent,
she excelled in retail as a customer service representative.
Michelle was the epitome of a Daddy’s girl. As a child she would imitate the
way her father walked because she wanted to be just like him. Her willingness
to serve was a tribute to what she saw her father do. He was the church’s custodian,
bus driver, mechanic, security, etc. and he later became the Shepherd/
Pastor of Christ Tabernacle All Nations Apostolic Church. Whatever the ministry
needed, her dad was found doing it just like Michelle.
As she grew in the grace of God, she joined Great Faith Ministries International
under the leadership of Apostle Wayne T. & Dr. Beverly Jackson in Detroit,
MI. For over 30 years she found herself doing the work of the Father. She
served on the Usher Board and eventually became the head Usher. She was also
a Minister and a Teacher of the Word. Whatever she did, she did it with the
spirit of excellence. This was not only her church, this was her home.
Michelle’s enjoyment for life also included the hobbies of traveling, sitting
poolside, reading, singing, crocheting, interior design and being a fabulous
event planner. She was known to always step out in fashion and above all was a
true servant of God.
Michelle was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Mae Roberson, father
Robert Roberson, brothers Eddie, Thomas “Tommy”, Gabe, Bobby, Joseph
Smith and sister Christine Sims.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Her sisters Betty, Shirley, and Doris Sims,
