Michelle Nichole DeMeyer, 54, of Bend, Oregon passed unexpectedly the night of March 3rd. Her legacy lives on and she leaves us bereft. 

Michelle was born to Gordon Lee Balka and Catherine Selack Balka in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she also grew up.  Educated at  University of Wyoming and University of Utah, Michelle was valued as a Back Office Manager at several investment firms. Fierce, independent, funny, loyal, and most notably, kind hearted, Michelle carried her care for others everywhere she went.

As a single mother by choice, Michelle embraced parenthood with unconditional love after having her first son, Sawyer, in 2001. Six years later, she met her soulmate, Robert (Bobby), marrying in 2009.  They blended their families, rooted themselves in Bend, Oregon and added two sons, Anthony and Charlie, to the tribe.  All could attest to the adoration she had for her husband and children. Living up to her “Mother Bear” t-shirt, she advocated, protected, and cheered on her kids, always heard above the crowd! 

Michelle leaves behind her beloved husband, Robert; her four children, Sawyer, Alina, Anthony, and Charlie; her mother, Catherine; and a wide circle of friends and extended family who misses her deeply.

A memorial service will be held on March 29th at noon at Holy Communion Church. Friends and family are invited to share stories and memories in honor of her compassionate life.
