Micheal's obituary

Micheal Lee Davis (AKA Michele) originally of Lakeview Village, Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on March 5th 2024 in Phoenix AZ after a short battle with cancer. Born on Sept 21, 1943 to Roy Davis and Eleanor Clammer. Micheal graduated from Lakeview High School in 1961 where she was an A student highly praised by her teachers. She was in the French club and sang in the A Capella club. After high school she attended a secretarial college and met and married her first husband, Robert E. Vest, III, a Battle Creek man of African American And Native American descent. Being deeply prejudiced, her parents promptly disowned Micheal for her choice of a mate and the community of Lakeview likewise shunned her. But Michael was a survivor.

Her and her new husband moved to Waukegan where they bought a house and raised three children. Michael later lived and worked in Chicago and San Francisco where she became a highly sought after legal secretary. She also bought a farmhouse in Provence, France with her second husband, Max Copeland, where she lived for many years.

She was a talented artist who worked in pencil, oil, stained glass and fabric. She retired to a ranch in Arizona in her later years where she raised goats, chickens, geese, and ducks. She was an animal lover and a talented gardener. She was strong-willed, brashly honest, and always spoke up for herself. She taught her daughters to challenge authority, live authentic lives, and be strong women. She will be missed

She is survived by her sister Becky Hermsmeyer and her brother Jon Davis, both of Santa Rosa, CA; four children including: Julia Lynn Vest, M.A. of Los Angeles, Jennifer Lisa Vest, Ph.D. of Long Beach, CA, Jilchristina Vest, M.A of Oakland, CA and Kimlea Bassett of Edwardsburg, MI; five grandchildren including: Niko Vest Walton, Malik Vest Walton, Kimberly Neuerberg, Holly Neuerberg, Lucas Clayton and two great-grandchildren, Haylea Neuerberg and Olivia Neuerberg. She was a beautiful warrior woman.
