Michael's obituary
Michael Thomas “Zube” Zubyk, Jr., age 60, passed away on March 31, 2025, in Lakewood, New Jersey. Born on December 28, 1964, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Michael lived a life marked by resilience, kindness, and a deep love for his family and passions.
Michael was a proud graduate of Central Bucks West High School and went on to earn his bachelors degree from West Chester University. Throughout his life, he remained deeply connected to his friends, family and community.
Michael is lovingly remembered by his sons Tyler of North Wales, PA and Benjamin of Abington, PA. He also leaves behind his sister Linda Hamarlow and her husband Mike of Warrington, PA; his brother Jim Zubyk and wife Jennifer of Chalfont, PA; and his nephews and niece Brian, Jordyn and Jake. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Nancy Zubyk.
Michael had an enduring love for Ocean City, New Jersey, where he spent countless summers enjoying the beach and fishing on the bay with his children—moments that brought him great joy. His passion for music was equally strong; he found inspiration in the sounds of Van Halen, Pink Floyd, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. A gifted athlete in his youth, Michael excelled at baseball, soccer and street hockey. His enthusiasm for sports extended into adulthood as a loyal fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Vikings, and all Philadelphia sports teams.
Diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease many years ago, Michael faced the challenges of this devastating illness with unwavering grace and dignity. Despite its progression, he remained kind-hearted and joyful—a testament to his strength of spirit. Those who knew him will remember his warm presence and the courage with which he lived each day. He was supported throughout his illness by his former wife Sandi McEwen, who spent countless hours advocating for a cure and better treatment for Huntington’s Disease patients.
Michael was taken from us far too soon but leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
