It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" Nelson, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Mike, born on July 31, 1947, peacefully departed this life on May 9, 2024.

Known for his warm, wise, kind, and loving personality, Mike touched the lives of many. His teachings and life lessons, particularly about the importance of resilience and the ability to keep going in the face of adversity, remain as his enduring legacy.

Mike had an affinity for the simpler joys in life. His favorite recreational activities were spending precious time with his wife, Bernie Smith, and tending to his garden. His appreciation for the subtle elegance of a fine red wine and the nostalgic pleasure of a cold Coke in a glass bottle demonstrated the grace and authenticity with which he carried through life.

Always an adventurer at heart, Mike held dear his vacation memories from Hilton Head, Charleston and the Greaet Smoky Mountains. These places not only offered solace but also served as a perfect setting for family bonding and creating beautiful memories.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Bernie Smith, and his found-children, Isabel Smith and Mason Smith. He was an inspiring figure for his grandchild, Vera Emore, who will remember him with profound love and respect. His absence will be deeply felt within the family and by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held on May 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Chapel on 1129 E 3rd St. In honoring Mike's life and remembering his profound impact, we extend our invitation to all who wish to pay their respects and share in our memories of a truly exceptional man.
