Michael's obituary
It is with enormous sadness that the family of Michael J Whaley, 68, of Plymouth Meeting, PA, announces his tragic passing on October 14, 2024 after a valiant battle with brain cancer. He will forever be missed but be forever alive in our hearts and minds.
Michael was born on January 15, 1956 to Robert Whaley and Mary Brown, both deceased, in his beloved Fresno, California. After graduating from Methacton High School in PA he went on to study Social Work at Temple University and later received his Master's degree in Health Education from St. Joseph's University.
He was a loving husband to Dawn Sandrow, Pam Mace; brother to Stephen Whaley(partner Jim Manser); father to Christopher(Erin) Whaley, Ryan(Esther) Whaley, step-father to Jamie(Brian Grassi) Poole and grandfather to Becky, Matthew, Becca and Elly.
Michael was known for his booming voice, bad puns, sense of humor, the absurd, love of music, surrealism/DaDa art, science, theater, and anything with wheels and an engine. He loved his family and his cats along with the exploration of his heredity. Some might question the veracity of his research, Barack Obama a cousin?
Michael was a Master's educated Human Services Worker who dedicated his life to helping others less fortunate focusing on those in crisis with mental health challenges and homelessness. It was not unusual to hear cries of "Mr. Mike" when walking down center city streets. Mike's favorite vacation spots were Kennebunkport, Maine and Encinitas, California.
A Remembrance Service will be held at "Generations of Indian Valley". Address is 259 N. 2nd St., Souderton, PA 18964 215-723-5841
Please bring your memories and smiles to send Michael off in a joyful remembrance of a life well lived.
A private burial for the family will be held at West Laurel Hill Cemetery.
