Michael's obituary
On Thursday, December 7, 2023, Michael entered Heaven the way he lived his life: with vigor, valor, and generosity. Michael was born in the wee hours of the morning on Thursday, February 20, 1986. From that day forward, he took the world by storm, pursuing adventure, knowledge, and excitement in all he did.
An avid lover of science and technology, Michael explored the natural world and the computer world with as much enthusiasm and speed as he could eat an entire box of Eggo waffles (in one sitting). He graduated from Merrillville High School in 2003 and pursued a degree in computer science at Westwood College. The pace of the classroom was much too slow for Michael’s liking so he pivoted toward the military service and joined the prestigious United States Marine Corps in 2004. During his service, Michael received recognition for good conduct, sea service, global war on terrorism, national defense, and rifle marksmanship.
After traveling all over with the Marine Corps, Michael returned to his hometown in 2008. A year later, Michael welcomed his son, Dexter, into the world. Dexter would be his delight as Michael was eager to share his love of chess, video games, and all things adventure with his son.
Michael spent the remaining years of life continuing his adventures, attending college courses, serving in the Army Reserves, and competing in chess tournaments.
Michael would want all of us to remember him with a smile rather than with tears. He would want us to find comfort in knowing he is free from the trivial restraints with which this world tried to hold him and is home with his Heavenly Father and his family gone before. We will miss his witty sense of humor, his brilliant mind, his contagious smile, his love of life and his generous nature. Michael was that "one in a million" special kind of human. Even on his way out, Michael continued his generosity by gifting his kind heart, left lung, liver, and both kidneys to men and women in need. Michael is deeply loved forever and will never be forgotten.
Michael is survived by his beautiful son, Dexter; lovingly devoted mother, Marla; his dearly loved sister, Melissa, and his maternal grandmother, Margarita. He is also survived by many special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and cherished friends. Thank you to everyone who blessed his life with love, support, and wisdom.
