Mick,
You will forever be missed. He was a hard man, a big man and no matter how hard he seemed, his heart was bigger. He never hesitated to take Eric and I to work in the patch with him. Where we spent more time eating his jerky, eating his stashes off Beanie Wienies, getting chased by skunks and being yelled at. Yet he was always there teaching us, with his big laugh, that I’m sure everyone can hear right now, when we were totally being idiots. I remember how absolutely pissed he would get at washboard roads... stuttering pissed at them. Making breakfast sausage and you could never skip on one ingredient and that was pepper corns.. like a giant container... that was the secret.
I can remember no matter how mad Eric and i would make him in our shenanigans, he was always right there to laugh about it.. or at us. Like shooting a porcupine who was above us in a tree with Erics trusty 30-06.
I am thankful for the memories, for going to the oil field with him in my youth, to getting to work side by side with him later in life. To teach him the oil field of the future... which was “utter bullshit nonsense, computer shit”. Or something along those lines.
Rest easy Mick, you had a good life, raised some awesome kids and helped form some that were not of your blood. Your laugh will always be in my heart.
As one of the childhood friends I can say without a doubt that beef jerky was and still is the best I’ve ever had. I can still hear his voice calling downstairs to us after we’d probably eaten a weeks worth of jerky (in one sitting) and drank ALL of the lemonade......he will be missed. Condolences From The Williams.
