Michael's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Van Wagenen. With hearts full of love we celebrate the life of Michael, who passed away far too soon at the age of 36. His time here was packed with laughter, passion, creativity, and the kind of presence that made everything a little more fun, a little more interesting, and a lot more heartfelt.
A lifelong lover of film and music, Michael had a soundtrack for every moment and a quote for every occasion. Whether he was introducing you to an obscure director, geeking out over Star Wars, overanalyzing his fantasy football lineup like it was a matter of national importance, or adding to his samurai sword collection (yes, really), he brought an infectious joy to his interests—and pulled everyone he loved along for the ride. Whether you were with him at a music festival, part of his fantasy football league, or gathered at a family celebration, Michael always had a way of making everyone feel seen, included, and loved.
He was a beloved son, big-hearted brother, loving husband, loyal friend, unwavering Seahawks fan and proud cat dad, with a sense of humor that could disarm anyone and a thoughtful spirit that quietly made life easier and better for those around him. He was smart, silly, kind, and delightfully goofy—the kind of person who made inside jokes feel like sacred traditions and everyday moments feel like scenes from a movie.
An animal lover with a soft heart and sharp wit, he made the world a gentler, funnier, and more creative place. We’ll miss his laugh, his endless movie recommendations, and the way he always knew just what to say—or not say—when it mattered most.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, and we’re all better for having known him. May the Force be with you, always.
