Michael's obituary
Michael Dewey Stoughton, 74, of Hanna, UT, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 14, 2022, in St. Petersburg, FL.
Michael was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania on March 30,1947 to the late Vonzant Blaine and Evelyn Shepard Stoughton. He grew up in Buffalo, New York and northwestern Indiana, graduating from Chesterton High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Airforce from 1965 to 1969, touring in southeastern Asia during the Vietnam War.
Michael possessed an admiration for the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter, expert marksman, and bow-hunting enthusiast. He was passionate about big game hunting throughout North America and fishing all over the world.
While living in Puerto Rico, Mike became an expert mariner, sailing all over the Caribbean & Atlantic Ocean; fishing, scuba diving and exploring his unquenchable thirst for adventure. In 1997, he completed a Trans-Atlantic journey sailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Horta, Azore Islands Portugal in 25 days.
Michael also enjoyed making new friends and creating meaningful connections wherever he went. Mike greatly valued his solitude but was also known to publicly sing and dance at the local tavern. He will be greatly missed by many.
As a part of his family legacy, Mike has left The Stoughton Mountain cabin & property in Utah for generations to come.
He is survived by his three loving children Cheryl (Ron) Goff of Centennial, CO, Jason (Lara) Stoughton of Kennesaw, GA, Kara Stoughton of Phoenix, AZ; his sister Deborah (Mike) Nobley of Newell, AL; and his five grandchildren Lilianna and Farryn Stoughton; Harper and Remington Goff and Michael (MJ) Grosso.
In accordance with Mike’s wishes, there will be three separate celebration of life services held in Pennsylvania, Utah, and off the coast of southern Florida, hosted by his children. Details will be determined later.
