Michael's obituary
Michael Allen Smith, a devoted husband and beloved father, passed away on February 18, 2026, at his home in Chelsea, Alabama. He was 70 years old.
Born in Birmingham on April 13, 1955, Michael lived a life defined by dedication, service, and an unwavering love for his people. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Faulkner University in 1995. This education supported a distinguished career at Alabama Power, where he worked for just shy of 38 years before retiring in 2019. During his tenure, Michael served as the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) Southeast Division President from 1997 to 1998. His commitment to helping others earned him the APSO Southeast Division Volunteer of the Year award in 1998 as well as the Alabama Power Presidential Award.
While he was a hard worker, Michael’s true legacy lies in his character. He married the love of his life, Tammy, on May 6, 1984. He was known as the most faithful man who loved his family fiercely. If his "baby" wanted to do something, Michael was right there by her side. He enjoyed muscle cars, fun music, and cheering for University of Alabama football, but his greatest joy came from attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was the man who always showed up, ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Michael was a devout Christian who lived out his faith daily. He served as a Shepherd at Crossbridge Church in Birmingham and was active in his local community.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Smith; his children, Kelly Cole (David), Kim Pickett (Jeremy), Krista Jones (Leonard), and Dylan Smith (Laura); and his beloved grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walton F. and Elizabeth Eugenia Smith, and his brothers, Paul and Richard Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Crossbridge Church, 3039 Brook Highland Parkway, Birmingham, AL 35242. Garry and Zach Brantley will officiate.
