Michael's obituary
Upon graduation, he began college life at Fort Hays State University. Here, he reconnected with a girl from Pratt, KS named Mary Jo, whom he had met on a school trip two years prior. They became reacquainted at freshman dances and in chemistry class. He introduced her to flying, his lifelong passion, and realized she wasn't afraid of flying. So, they became engaged in 1961, and wedding bells followed shortly after as they were married in Pratt in August of 1962.
In the fall of 1962, they both transferred to the University of Kansas and became Jayhawks. Here Michael started the Aerohawks Flying Club and got his pilot's license. Both graduated from KU, Michael in June of 1964.
Michael's love for flying led him into a career in aircraft sales in Dallas, Texas beginning in 1965. IN 1967, this was interrupted as he was drafted into service for the United States Army. He spent his two years of service at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.
When his service was up, he and Mary Jo traveled around Europe using "Europe on $5 a Day" as their guide. Later in 1969, Michael began working at a bank in Dallas in the aircraft finance department, and two years later went back into aircraft sales. This eventually led him to Sunny California where he worked for Beechcraft West at the Ontario Airport. It was at this time that he was a member of the Rotary Club of Ontario and additional professional organizations.
Michael was a devout Christian and member of Shepherd's Grove Church in Irvine, California. He was a member of the Becomers Bible Study Class, and loved the friends and community he found there. Michael was the creator of the Skype Program for their class so the message and fellowship could be shared with people not able to make it to the church itself. He was very proud of this accomplishment.
Michael is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jo, of Upland, CA; brother Russell Sill and sister-in-law Joyce of Lenexa, KS; daughter Sabrina and son-in-law Jeremy Blake of Fullerton, CA; daughter Sonia Martinath of Northborough, MA; four grandchildren- Ethan and Alice Martinath, Dustin and Olivia Blake; and numerous friends whom were all regarded as family. He is dearly missed by all.
