It's hard for me to remember the first time I met Mike, but I will never forget his energy and overall passion for life! I would be over at the Sata house a lot during high school working with Jen on various school projects. One thing I can vividly remember was this huge white board, the largest white board you've ever seen, hanging in Mike office. There were words written on every inch of this board, words I've never heard of but just scribbles everywhere! On the top of the board Nicole wrote something like "Mike's plan to live forever" and told me they were all different vitamins or foods Mike had researched that were supposed to be good for your health. On top of that, Mike had every vitamin bottle known to man in the kitchen. I had never seen so many different vitamin bottles but knew this guy was taking it seriously! One of my favorite memories of Mike was at Jen’s wedding. After the ceremony, Mike started to make his father of the bride speech which was filled with jokes (some a little inappropriate!) that he later told us he googled off the internet. Then on the dance floor, Mike proceeded to show off the dance skills he learned on Youtube! Mike’s true zest for life is something I will never forget and will remember to live up to in my own life. Rest in peace Mike.
2016, South Berkeley Senior Center, Ellis Streea t, Berkeley, CA, USA
The first time that I have met Mike and Linda Sata was at a luncheon at Berkeley Senior Center South Branch. We were sitting at one of the round tables there. Mike & Linda were very selective in what they ate and would not accept any sweets like cup cake, ice cream or donuts. We've stated talking about what is healthy to eat etc., then I told Mike that I must have seen him somewhere before this time, He would always have his laptop computer with him at the center to use their free WiFi connection, All of a sudden I remembered that I've seen Mike on local TV News several years ago about some bad characters came into a coffee shop on Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley, snatched a brand new apple lap top from an Asian man who was sitting near the front door behind a large window. The 2 thieves ran out of the coffee shop and Mike had tried to chase them down and to get his lap top back. But the thieves were young and ran away fast. Mike told me that was him on the closed circuit video tape that had recorded this terrible incident. Mike was very good with the computer programs and I've gotten lots of help from him with my new android cell phone in setting up the different apps and how to use them like the Spotify. Mike even helped our senior Ballet class' teacher to hook up external speaker to her i-pad since most i-pads do not have Blue-Tooth capability, when we've lost our pianist to retirement at age 80. Mike told me that he'd planned to write a book about natural herbal food that's good for different ailments. I and others at Berkeley Senior Center miss seeing Mike with his warm smile and kind help with his expertise.. My deepest condolence to Linda and family.
Mike was a good friend of my Mother's, which is how I was introduced to the Sata family. Even after he lost touch with my mom, he would still make an effort to reach out to me and keep in contact.
